Two disciplines, two data models
The reason this question is hard is that architects and interior designers do not disagree about tools — they work on genuinely different objects.
An architect’s primary object is the model. Geometry, assemblies, drawings, coordination, construction documentation. Revit, ArchiCAD, SketchUp, AutoCAD. The schedule is an output of the model: eighteen luminaires of type L-04 because eighteen appear in the ceiling plan.
A designer’s primary object is the schedule. Every FF&E item with a vendor, a price, a finish, a lead time, a client price and a status. The model is upstream context: it tells you how many and where, not which one to buy or what it costs.
Neither replaces the other, and the interesting engineering is the seam. Counts and locations flow down from the model; product decisions, pricing and procurement live in the schedule; and when the model revises, the schedule has to absorb that without anyone retyping.
The handoff is the whole question
Three things to evaluate, in order of how much time they save.
1. Can the model’s schedule land in the FF&E schedule without retyping? A Revit schedule export contains exactly the structure you want — family, type mark, instance mark, count — and re-entering it by hand is both slow and error-prone in the way that matters, because a miscount becomes a wrong order.
2. What happens on model revision? Architects revise. If re-importing an updated schedule duplicates every row, the import is a one-time trick rather than a workflow. You want a diff: what is new, what already exists, what changed.
3. Can a placeholder exist before a product is chosen? Early in a project you know you need eighteen luminaires of a type long before you know which luminaire. A schedule that only accepts real products forces either a fake entry or a parallel list. Requirement slots — a row that holds the requirement and later receives a product — solve this, and they are the concept architects most often find missing.

Decide who owns the schedule
The most common failure in shared projects is not a tool problem. It is both teams maintaining parallel lists — the architect’s model schedule and the designer’s FF&E schedule — with nobody owning reconciliation.
Decide explicitly at kickoff. The arrangement that usually works: the model is upstream and authoritative for counts and locations; the FF&E schedule is authoritative for products, pricing and procurement; and the schedule is refreshed from the model on revision rather than maintained in parallel. That is only workable if re-import behaves, which is why the diff question above matters more than it sounds.
